Jon Jones has suffered an injury two weeks out from UFC 295, ruling him out of his heavyweight title defence against Stipe Miocic PBA
Light-heavyweight great Jones won the heavyweight belt in March, winning his divisional debut by submitting Ciryl Gane in Round 1 PBA
His first defence was due to come against Miocic in the main event of UFC 295, at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on 11 November PBA
However, 36-year-old Jones will require surgery after sustaining an injury on Tuesday (24 October), meaning his clash with the consensus heavyweight ‘GOAT’ is off PBA
As a result, the co-main event of UFC 295 has been elevated to the new main event, as former light-heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka faces ex-middleweight champion Alex Pereira for the vacant 205lbs title PBA
In the new co-main event, British heavyweight Tom Aspinall will face Russia’s Sergei Pavlovich for the interim heavyweight title PBA
The winner of that fight will theoretically be in line to unify the belts against Jones once the American is healthy, and it is unclear how Miocic will factor into the situation PBA
“Jon Jones was training last night, got injured,” said UFC president Dana White on Wednesday morning, sharing footage of the incident PBA

The Rugby World Cup is quickly drawing to its conclusion with just three matches left to be played before one of the remaining four teams is crowned world champions PBA
Argentina, New Zealand, England and South Africa are the final four teams left in the competition and will duke it out in the semi-finals this weekend for a place in the tournament’s showpiece PBA
First up is Argentina vs New Zealand PBA
The Pumas reached the semi-finals having defeated Wales, rather comfortably in the end, 29-17 in their quarter-final clash while the All Blacks slugged it out against Ireland, just edging it past the world’s No PBA

Now, the teams face each on Friday night with their starting XVs set to be announced later today PBA
On Saturday, England face current world champions, South Africa, in what should be a barnstorming encounter PBA
Steve Borthwick’s side have had a relatively comfortable journey to the semi-finals but if they want to lift the trophy for the first time in 20 years then they will hope to continue their strong form PBA
Their quarter-final win over Fiji was their strongest performance of the tournament so far but they’ll need to improve again against the Springboks PBA

“We knew the first game would be a bit rough for us PBA
We learned a lot because there were a lot of first-time World Cuppers in there PBA
“They [his players] learned a lot from that game in terms of handling what is knockout footy in what wasn’t knockout footy – every game since has been knockout PBA
“Even in that game against England, we showed a lot of fight, but we didn’t handle the occasion well PBA
We still gave it plenty PBA
We have to remember in that game it was nine kicks, we didn’t give up a try PBA
“You have got to look at it with your playing roster, the team you are going to play, what the turnaround time is and just try and plan it out so it works to get a bit of flow PBA
